      Dank je wel Elsje! Hamburg doet in menig opzicht aan Rotterdam denken: ook kapot gegooid in de oorlog, in het oude centrum meestal zakelijke en onopmerkelijke nieuwbouw (die zo langzamerhand wel wordt vervangen door fraaiere architectuur), omringd door wijken van heel diverse aard, aan een brede rivier. Het is in alles een havenstad, ruig, kleurrijk, arbeidzaam. Maar ook op een vreemde manier knus, genoeglijk hip hier en daar, aan de Elbe-oever is van alles te doen en nu in aanbouw een schitterend nieuwbouwgebied aan de oude havens, waar ik zo zou willen wonen. Het grote verschil met Rotterdam is dat de havens zich in de onmiddellijke nabijheid van de stad bevinden, ertegenover eigenlijk, met alle activiteit, kranen, sleepboten, en in en uitgaande vrachtschepen van dien. Ik vind het een zeer prettige stad die, inderdaad!, buitengewoon fotogeniek is.

      Thank you! And yes, less political coffee 🙂 This coffee house is in the neigbourhood Altona where everything is… well… political, as far as Antifa (Anti Fascists) is/are concerned. But sometimes you just want to have a good espresso or latte machiato. And the more the neighbourhood is becoming gentrified the more such coffee places will emerge. 🙂

    You are very welcome 🙂 It wasn’t at all cold, although, yes, grey most of the time I was there. But really, that was an exeption in the many weeks of sunshine and even hotness we in northen Europe had during may and June. Slowly the Mediterranean is creeping northward. Anyway – despite all that Hamburg definately is worth a visit.

    schön das es dir hier in meiner Heimatstadt gefallen hat…Hamburg hat aber auch ein paar nicht so schöne Seiten…wie wohl jede Stadt…und wenn man hier lebt(leben muss) ist das nicht immer leicht…aber schöne Motive die du hier gefunden hast !

    Hallo Jürgen. Vielen dank! Es ist zweifellos wahr das Hamburg nicht nur ‘kuchen und ei ist’ , wie wir das hier mal sagen. Ich hab die dunkele seiten nicht gesehen (glücklich), oder vielleicht doch ein bisschen aber nicht genug um mir als tourist darüber zu kummern. Hamburg ist ein Stadt wo ich genre noch viel länger durch wanderen wurde. Also, mir hat es sehr gefallen, aber du hast ohne zweifel recht. Herzliche Gruss, Peter.

      Thank you Deborah! The building with the green roof is ‘das Rathaus’, the Town Hall. They have it rebuild apparently after the destructions of city centre in WW2. It is one of the very little pre-war buildings standing. I agree, it is a beautiful sight from the colonade opposite one of the numorous canals in Hamburg. (I read the city has more bridges then Amsterdam and Venice together!) And yes! The pyramid! it was exactly my thought when I came across it. I would loved to have only the woman in the picture (and I must admid I tried to clone out the others figures but didn’t succeed 🙂 ) But still.On top you have a great view over the harbour and the river Elbe.

    I didn’t even really notice the people on the pyramid building! I was looking at the glass and stone/concrete and its shape. Completely missed the people, but now I see they add a sense of scale so it works!

    I’m so glad this building das Rathaus was restored. It’s gorgeous!

    `Weer zo’n heerlijk bijzondere serie. Favoriet die brug maar ook dat natte tafeltje en die berg vuil. Die laatste 2 vertellen een verhaal, maken nieuwsgierig en dat is goed. Straatfotografie gaat je werkelijk fantastisch af.
