Thank you so much Deborah! Also for the comments on the individual pictures. Those buildings in a row are 19the century warehouses. Unique as far as I know in this set up. They restored the wonderful red brick buildings (designed with extraordinary detail for essentialy utility complexes) and they now house offices, shops and perhaps appartments. It’s a delightful part of Hamburg and its harbour quarter. The sculpture is in the great Kunsthalle (Hall of arts) and I like the guy in the background mimicking the statues look 🙂
Dank je wel Elsje! Zo heel erg hoog was het eigenlijk niet, maar door de lens die ik op mijn toestel had moest ik een beetje scheef gaan hangen. Ik vind het ook best een heel aardige foto geworden. 🙂
Interesting collection, as always! My favorites are 3, 5 and 14. 14 is just gorgeous, 5 is fun and surprising, full of life. 3 is intriguing because the dark figure of a man in the background is looking in an angle which nicely meets the sculpture’s gaze. Well done! 🙂
Thank you very much! And I agree! I chose nr 3 just because of the man in the background ( one has to be lucky sometimes 🙂 ) and yes, nr 5 is full of life, youth, curiousness, dare! Nr 14 is the historic core of Hamburg with its partly reconstructed (after WW2) warehouses. It’s called Speicherstadt. The beauty I find, apart from the wonderfully line up, is the degree of detail in the brick design. Like commerce palaces, utility but highly valued.

I have only seen a small part of Hamburg: city centre, the east bank of the river Elbe opposite the modern port, it’s new building projects like Hafen City (Harbour City) and briefly somewhat of the older quarter St. Pauli. But yes, most of Hamburgs buildings are post war after almost the complete city was destroyed in WW2. The old warehouse quarter is reconstructed and very pretty and the new developments adjacent to it are equally wonderful. The have done and still are doing a great job in putting old and new together. I’m fond of having lines, shapes and texture in my pictures and for that Hamburg is a perfect hunting field. 🙂

Maar water vind je overal in de stad en de Hamburgers maken daar schitterend gebruik van in onder andere hun nieuwbouwprojecten. Hier en daar deed het me denken aan Antwerpen, het nieuwe kwartier aan het Bonapartedok en het Eilandje. Heel mooi allemaal!
Het ziet er echt heel anders uit in zwart-wit, dat is zo. Het geeft een ander beeld, een ander perspectief, een andere focus, een ander gevoel ook. Je houdt ervan, of niet natuurlijk. Zijn je kriebels die van onbehagen of ergernis of zie je foto’s liever gewoon in kleur?
Op zuch vink zwaartwit aal nait zo mal mor toch … soort van onbehoagn wel … t vuilt asof der wat vot is… wat dak dun mis…asof t n veurbode is van nais woarop knait zit te wachten… kint nait goud oetlegn

Thanks a lot Jane! I find it interesting to make some series also black&white. It changes the feel entirely and steers the eye in a different way. Well, I don’t need to tell you this 🙂 I’s wonderful to have such an arsenal of methods of showing a bit of the world.
