Oh, Peter, it’s beautiful! I love the windmill…I hear those are few and far between nowadays, and that blue hour image. Be still my heart! I love the clouds in that image and the beach with the distant people…The iconic Netherlands..or as knew it from my heritage Holland
Thank you Deborah! The windmill wasn’t there when I was born, but it had been there before. (The road is called Mill Road 🙂 ) In the nineteeneightees they purchased a mill from the mainland and put it up at the old spot again. The beaches on the northen islands are broad and mostly empty. I’ve seen the most beautiful coasts everywhere on the planet, but with some lush clouds above this one beats them all. (well, this of course is totally subjective 🙂 )
Thank you Hanna! It was and still is a wonderful play ground for children. The amazing thing is it hasn’t changed all that much. In my childhood there were hardly any cars, but there aren’t that many nowadays. The meadows I made chains of daisies are still there and I can still see me lying on my back in the grass watching the clouds drifting westward to a far away fairy land called England. I hope I’ll never lose my playfulness 🙂
Very beautiful land. I wanted to say also that the images you’ve captured give such a fuller picture of the place as a whole, from the church to the beach, from the daylight to the twilight. Pretty neat to see! Thanks for the tour!
Thank you Marissa! I hung around the place for quite some time this year, so I had the opportunity to take pics at different moments and places. I’m glad you liked them!
Hallo Peter,
I too like the windmill and it looks like a nice peaceful place to be. I think that you are lucky to be able to say that it has not changed that much. All the places I knew as a child I would not know if you just pick me up and drop me in now. I love seeing the chickens out in the backyard 🙂
Thank you John! When looking at a map of my country now and one of the end of the fiftees there is a huge difference. Cities and villages have expanded enormously. Although my birth village grew as well the old streets are virtualy left unchanged. So yes, it’s like travelling back in time. Just like having chickens running lose in the backyard. 🙂
also beautiful Peter…I love The Netherlands…and the sea…I feel I belong there…you have captured these beautifully as well ~ smiles over the pond hedy ☺️✌️
Thank you! I spend a week on my birth island and it was a joy to try and capture some of the land- and seascape, as well as the village where I saw the light of life (Duh… I got carried away a bit here 🙂 ) I’m happy you like the pictures of this part of the Netherlands.
Thank you Dwight! I tried fo find out from when the bible dates, but I couldn’t find it. It has been given a worthy place in the church, that’s for sure.
Looks idyllic!!! (What about the boats, still ok to use?)

It ís idyllic! 🙂 And yes, I suppose the boats are perfectly usable. When the tide is high they come adrift and are ready to go.
