Dank je wel! Met die man raakte ik in gesprek. Hij was flink op leeftijd, weduwnaar en woonde tegenover het plantsoen met de vijver, nog steeds zelfstandig. Hij ging elke dag de vogels voeren. ‘Dan ben je er even uit. En weet je, een mens moet in beweging blijven.’ Het waterkipje op de voorgrond kende hem.
Moar Ko! Eem draaimeuln in! Das toch hartstikke schier wichie? En die meulenoar draaide dat ding zulf op haandkracht! “t Waar eem weer neegntiendraientwintig op Vismaarkt. 🙂
An interesting selection of life! But yikes, that kid riding a bike with no helmet! Is that usual over there? Here, ALL kids wear helmets when they are on a bike. Oh, and people even bike in the snow and ice, so it’s good that many adults wear them too!
Thank you so much! But yeah, helmets on bikes are not common over here. Although one sees them more and more on children when riding their owen little bikes. But once a bit older, helmets are gone. When we see grown ups on bikes with helmets, they must be German. Voices are raised to start wearing helmets though, but I guess it will take some time before that will be widely accepted.We don’t have that much snow and ice and when it occurs the roads and bicycle paths useually are kept clean. But as I said, perhaps this behaviour will change in the future.

Wat een heerlijk gevarieerde serie, Peter. Er zit een aantal foto’s met geweldig mooie contrasten tussen en ook vaak weer sterke composities. Veel van de foto’s vertellen een eigen verhaal, de foto van de man met het waterhoentje is daar een prachtig voorbeeld van. Ook de humor ontbreekt niet met de elegant liggende paspop en vooral ook met de schijnbaar plotselinge opstekende wind op de markt. Ik heb de foto’s een keer of vier bekeken en ik ontdek elke keer weer wat nieuws.
Ergo: ik kijk al uit naar het vervolg. 🙂
Dank je wel, Jan! Het is een groot compliment als de foto’s met aandacht bekeken worden! Om die paspop moet ik zelf ook lachen. Ze ligt in een straat waar vaak ook een pop op een stoel zit, midden op het trottoir. Ze zit een beetje wijdbeens en voorover en zo provocerend op haar gemak dat ik er elke keer weer vrolijk van wordt. Ik zal er nog wel eens een foto van plaatsen. Het vervolg op deze serie, ook in zwart-wit, komt, zoals bij mij gebruikelijk is, na weer een kleurenserie. 🙂
Dank je wel, Liesbeth! Ik ga nooit op stap zonder mijn cameraatje, dat is het eigenlijk. Er is altijd wel wat te zien, meestal blijkt het bij thuiskomst bagger te zijn, soms blijft er iets aardig over.
I love the man and bird both taking a step image, and the woman riding by the building is classic street photography in my mind. Great job panning on that one! The image with the woman pushing against the trailer has so much going on! It held my attention for a minute trying to figure it out. I imagine she was closing the door of the trailer while the other woman was retrieving something perhaps blown away by the wind the big truck caused. It’s an interesting image for sure!
Thank you Deborah! The man and the bird are sweet. He told me he was a widower and been ill for quite a while, and now he was back up to feed the birds in the pond opposite of his house. I imagine the bird in the image knows that man! I like the picture of the cycling woman as well. The building is a small church converted into appartments. The picture with the people by the trailer was taken at the end of market day when the vendors are leaving. I don’t really recall what was going on but it with te gulls and all it was a lively scene. 🙂
Thanks a lot, John! I like the biking lady too. It’s such a common sight over here, biking folks, that I hardly really see it anymore, but when captured in a photograph it becomes kind of special again.
Terrific set, Peter. Your images have a spontaneity that is very appealing. The woman sweeping in the cafe, the man and pigeon, the convertible at the arch and the women zipping by on her bike stood out for me. All of the images are nicely shot.
Thank you so much, Jane! I always carry my modest sized Fuji with me, a nice small lens attached. One never knows what attracts the eye. Between the dirt occasionally something a little brighter lights up, a bit like panning for gold. I’m happy you like the images!
I love the shots, Peter! My favorite is the one of the white chairs that catch your eye… and then as you look you see the man in the back cleaning the floor. I also like the contrast of the motorbike and the big construction machine!
Thank you Dwight! The white chair restaurant is already gone. Places like that pop up and vanish, sometimes very quickly. But as we say here: luckily we still have the pictures. 🙂 The construction of the new neighbourhood is almost completed. So here again – captured history.
Beautiful black and white images, Peter. I think I like the one of the man pushing a stroller heading towards the arches and beyond. It’s such an ordinary scene yet who knows where his life is going to go next.
I also echo what the others said about your photos, and the one about the person sweeping the floor also caught my eye. Such an ordinary sight but the person’s job is so important on many levels. Interesting to hear you mention this white chair pop up restaurant is gone. Maybe pop-ups will be the way of the future – now you see it, now you don’t. Hope you are well 🙂
Thanks a lot Mabel! Cool you mention the stroller picture. It’s excacty what I was thinking. I find young people pushing strollers touching. A while back I saw a young couple painting the walls in wat apperantly was their new home. Kind of the same feeling I had then – future, love, an adventure starting. Especially food related places pop up very often in my city lately. Competition is fierce in that segment of economy, so wether they are surviving is trickey. Some stores are very old though (a hat store!) and I hope they will stay forever. I’m well, Mabel. The pandemic is seemingly coming to an end and life is starting to get back to normal again. I did not get ill, so I’m all fine. 🙂
Brick and mortar shops are indeed facing stiff competition, especially in current times. A hat shop is not something you see every day these days… Hope you get to find such shops on your future walks. Take care, Peter 🙂
